The majority of patients who come to our surgical center are seeking to restore
a receding hairline and/or frontal hair loss according to the Director of Medical Procedures and Surgical Operations.
"The first
impression you make and first image you present to others is the most important one.” When the hairline is receding it can make a
person appear older visually and perhaps less youthful all-around. Not to mention the psychological effects it can have as well”.
By
reestablishing a hairline and restoring frontal hair loss with follicular unit hair transplants, our Board Certified Surgeons and
Medical Team can help patients look much younger than their hair loss makes them appear. "It can take 5 to 10 years off a person's
appearance”.
When it comes to rebuilding the hairline with hair grafts, we use 1 and 2 hair follicular units to create a "soft" and “natural” hairline edge. This new hairline edge takes approximately 150-200 small follicular units to complete from left temple to right temple. The follicular units are implanted in a slightly staggered and off-set fashion so as not create a hard edge or unnatural looking hairline. For example: this pattern shows what staggered implants might like
"- . - . - . - . - ." This next example shows
what a non-staggered straight line would look like: ". . . . . ." This straight line edge is perfect for most African-American and
similar patients, but would appear unnatural for other ethnicities.
Once the new hairline is established, other (larger) follicular
units are implanted behind the new hairline and into the frontal and mid-scalp regions to finish up the restoration procedure and/or
add more density.
When deciding where to begin the new hairline, the Director of Medical Procedures and Surgical Operations said…
“the patient should place their four fingers horizontally against their forehead with their "pinkie" finger placed on the bridge of
the nose between the eyebrows. The new hairline will then start where the index finger lands at the top of the forehead”.
“Positioning
of the new hairline is critical. We don't like to position the hairline too low because it can tend to look “too perfect” or unnatural. If you are over 30 and want to have a hairline like a teenager again, then it would look silly and be completely obvious. A successful
hair transplant procedure is one that doesn’t look like a hair transplant procedure!”
An age appropriate hairline (done correctly) can continue to look good into your 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond.
